Dialogue Between Generations: Support and Unity

Oct. 15, 2026

The Youth Agency for Roma Culture Advocacy (ARCA), with the financial support of the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ) under the Lacho Dives programme, implemented the project “Dialogue Between Generations: Support and Unity” to improve the living conditions of elderly Roma survivors of Nazi persecution in Ukraine.

The project was implemented over 12 months in the Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions, and focused on providing humanitarian and psychosocial assistance to survivors and their families, whose vulnerability has been further aggravated by Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.

Key Activities and Results

Humanitarian Assistance

30 elderly Roma survivors of Nazi persecution received targeted assistance through vouchers for food, medication, and medical services. This support helped beneficiaries cover essential daily needs and improve access to healthcare.

Humanitarian and Psychosocial Support Hotline

A dedicated hotline provided consultations, monitored beneficiaries' needs and psychosocial well-being, and coordinated humanitarian assistance. The support component targeted 180 people, including 30 elderly Roma and 150 family members. Two Roma operators ensured direct communication with beneficiaries and facilitated access to available support.

Community Engagement

Six Roma volunteers were involved in outreach, communication with beneficiaries, and humanitarian assistance distribution. Their participation strengthened cooperation within local communities and developed practical capacities for supporting vulnerable groups.

Impact and Sustainability

The project contributed to improving access to essential assistance for elderly Roma survivors while strengthening community-based support mechanisms in the two regions.

The experience demonstrated the continuing need for humanitarian and psychosocial assistance among Roma survivors of Nazi persecution, particularly in the context of the ongoing war.

Building on the established networks and practical experience, ARCA will seek further funding and partnerships to continue and expand support for elderly Roma survivors and their families.
